Come 2018, Nat Bass is set to reprise her role as, arguably, Erinsborough’s biggest home-wrecker. In order to get a full understanding of the drama that’s about to unfold, we take a crash course in the history of Isabelle Hoyland.

Who is she?

Remember Max Hoyland, Steph Scully’s ex and the father of her child, Charlie? Izzy is his sister.

Steph and Max’s home was the first to be wrecked by Izzy when she arrived in Erinsborough in the early 2000’s, simply because she didn’t take a liking to Steph. They got back together later on, but still.

What’s she like?

She’s fun, feisty, and fearless when it comes to getting whatever she wants. A bit of a bombshell, she makes male friends easily. Female friends not so much. Middle-aged married women, almost never.

Izzy really enjoys riling women up. This goes back to when she first befriended Karl Kennedy while he was in the midst of a mid-life crisis. Boy did she enjoy being the subject of wagging tongues, suspicions, and telling Susan that he didn’t love her anymore. She wasn’t even into him.

What’s she done?

Despite thinking he was too old for her, when Izzy discovered she was pregnant to her crazy ex-boyfriend, she decided the newly-single Karl was the best kind of security a gal could find locally.

After declaring her love for him, she moved into his apartment, and rolled out an elaborate plan to hide the baby’s true age and parentage, ruining a bunch of lives and relationships along the way.

Then there was the framing of Karl and Susan’s nephew for robbery (he knew the truth about the baby) the sordid affair with Paul Robinson (half the neighbourhood knew except Karl), the sordid affair with Ned (as part of her plan to run him out of town), all the blackmail, manipulation, plot-hatching, screaming matches with half the women living on Ramsay Street, and then legitimately getting pregnant to Karl, but only by sleeping with him while he was on a sleep syrup that made him think Izzy was Susan.

How did she go out?

The chance at having another child (the first tragically miscarried) made Izzy want to atone for all those sins. Seeking a fresh start, she did what most Aussies do when they need to wipe the slate clean and find themselves, she moved to London and fell in love with a minted, married football player.

In London, while being hunted by the press for being a celebrity footballer’s home-wrecking bit of fluff, Izzy bumped into holidaying Karl and Susan and begged Susan to help her prove to her to man how much she truly loved him.

For once, Izzy was being honest with everyone and she and the footballer declared their love for each other in front of a bunch of paps, before Izzy went off to confess to Karl and Susan that Karl was the father of her baby.

Accidentally interrupting their wedding ceremony, her waters broke and Karl delivered his own child, without knowing it.

Susan discovered the truth when she overheard Izzy telling Footballer that she didn’t want to come between Karl and Susan again by telling them the truth about the baby. Susan waited until they were back in Erinsborough and told Karl herself. #didntwanttoruinthehoneymoon

Izzy and Karl’s daughter Holly has come to stay with Karl and Susan many times over the years, but Izzy has stayed far away. Until now.

What does she want now?

Too early to say. But knowing Izzy, she’ll probably get it.
