Jungle hi-jinks to make you LOL
When Bonnie was busted for stealing her campmates' stuff
She nicked Val’s knickers, swiped Shane’s toothbrush and toothpaste, and gosh knows what else. Bonnie’s bowerbird-like habit made her first port of call for campmates with missing belongings, earning her the affectionate nickname, “klepto Bonnie.” The contraband was always returned to its rightful owner, and in the end the only thing she stole was our hearts.
When Maureen was… Maureen
When Maureen ‘Marcia Brady’ McCormick bounced into the African jungle in season one, the world saw a whole new side to her eponymous TV persona. Warm, bubbly and just the right amount of kooky, Maureen had her campmates – and us – in stitches with her delightfully dotty antics. She danced like nobody was watching, sung her heart out on the long drop and couldn’t quite keep her hands off her fellow celebs including Anna – we won’t tell Tim.
When Merv Let Rip
It’s no secret that loveable larrikin Merv delighted in his ability to stir up trouble in camp. His grumpy outbursts and penchant for offering unsolicited advice usually got a rise out of his fellow celebs, but sometimes all it took was a well-timed bodily function. Yep, we’re talking about farts. Merv’s musical rear had his campmates in stitches, all except Joel Creasey, that is. If looks could kill…
When Freddie Hugged Chris
Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff was season one's mischievous schoolboy, and didn’t we love him for it. The cheeky cricketer had us laughing from his first night in the jungle through to one of his final challenges tethered to Maureen. We watched the budding bromance between Freddie and Dr Chris with great interest, and nothing had us chuckling harder than their first embrace (watch below).
When the Celebs Roasted Each Other
The inaugural I’m A Celebrity Roast afforded the season one celebs a chance to ‘roast’ – or poke fun at - their fellow campmates for an evening. Hosted with aplomb by seasoned comedian Joel Creasey, the Roast was full of good-natured humour and saw certain celebs reveal previously hidden comedic chops (see Barry Hall’s genius Maureen impression below).
to the whole camp for winding up Shane during charades, Anthony and Fev for cleverly pranking their fellow celebs on their way back to camp, Akmal for his razor-sharp wit and to our musically-inclined hosts for leading a jungle-wide sing-along.
