MasterChef Australia Judge for 2018
At the age of 39, George Calombaris is one of Australia's top chefs. His highly influential style of cuisine has earned him many accolades and much respect from culinary aficionados in Australia and around the globe.
George has always been fascinated by food. Inspired by his mother and grandmother, George quickly learnt about food and cooking. Although born and bred in Melbourne, his Greek heritage was central in his upbringing.
George’s career has been exceptional from the beginning. He completed his apprenticeship at one of Melbourne’s five-star hotels, Sofitel, and soon after found himself leading a team of chefs at MasterChef Australia co-judge Gary Mehigan’s Fenix Restaurant.
In the 2004 The Age Good Food Guide, George was awarded with Young Chef of the Year and he soon became a guest chef on many television programs including, Ready Steady Cook on Network Ten.
In 2008, The Age Melbourne Magazine placed George on its list of the Top 100 Most Influential People.
Along with his many restaurants, George has found time to write a number of cookbooks, including Greek Cookery From The Hellenic Heart, and two books – Your Place or Mine and Cook With Us – with fellow MasterChef Australia judge Gary Mehigan. His sixth cookbook, titled Greek, is a collection of 100 recipes including a chapter of recipes from his mother, Mary.
