Billie Proudman

Played by Kat Stewart

Billie Proudman is Nina’s unruly elder sister, bold, brassy and truthful to the point of being brutal. Adventurous and extroverted, Billie’s tough exterior masks a very soft centre and she will go to almost any length to protect the things she cares about.

Growing up, Nina was good as gold, while Billie was the black sheep who strayed from the flock. But she has put her wayward youth behind her and is now a dedicated aunt to Nina’s baby and a committed wife to Mick.

Currently living in the UK, where Billie is part-time manager of Mick’s music career, Billie is flung back into family life after a tragic event and must decide where her home really is.

Kat Stewart

Kat Stewart is arguably best known for her AACTA Award winning portrayal of Billie Proudman in the hugely popular television series Offspring.

Her rise to prominence, however, followed her breakout role as the infamous Roberta Williams in the acclaimed first series of Underbelly, for which she received both the 2008 AFI Award for Best Lead Actress and the 2009 TV Week Logie Award for Most Outstanding Actress.

Other acclaimed lead television performances include Mr And Mrs Murder, which she co-produced and starred in with Shaun Micallef, as well as Tangle. Her work in television has led to Logie nominations for Most Outstanding Actress in 2010,2011, 2012 and 2014.

Kat’s other television credits include No Activity, It’s A Date, Jack Irish: Dead Point, Camp, Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, 30 Seconds, Newstopia and Supernova, for which she earned her first Logie nomination (Graham Kennedy Award for Most Outstanding New Talent) and two ASTRA nominations, as well as recurring roles on City Homicide, Kick and Last Man Standing.

Kat’s feature film credits include Sucker opposite Timothy Spall for director Ben Chessell, Lady Macduff in Macbeth directed by Geoffrey Wright and Em 4 Jay directed by Alkinos Tsilimidos.

Kat’s substantial body of work in theatre includes her 10 years as an ensemble member with Melbourne’s lauded independent theatre company, Red Stitch. She is a multiple Green Room Award Winner (Victorian Theatre Awards) and has appeared several times for the Melbourne Theatre Company.

She will appear later this year in the company’s production of the Pulitzer Prize winning play, Disgraced.
