In May 2018 Tamara was admitted to hospital with pneumonia, they had then diagnosed her with a blood/lung infection known as Sepsis. Tamara was in an induced coma for 8 days and in that time her heart, lungs and kidneys all had collapsed, and her hands and toes got gangrene. Tamara has stayed in hospital leaving behind her 7 children and partner to manage the kids on his own. and 2 months ago the doctors had to amputate both her legs and she has since been learning to walk with prosthetics. The seeds for kogo were planted in July 2004. It was a particularly cold winter in Melbourne and there was a sudden resurgence in the popularity of knitting scarves. These two factors combined to motivate Ros Rogers to get friends and family to direct their knitting energy towards knitting for charity (after all how many scarves can one person wear!). This resulted in 180 scarves being knitted and these were distributed by the Emerald Hill Mission to those experiencing homelessness.

In May 2015, Carrie won the prestigious Gold Logie at the TV Week Logie awards, which she dedicated to her late husband Greg who passed away five years earlier following a 10-year battle with brain cancer. Carrie went on to form Carrie's Beanies 4 Brain Cancer Foundation which aims to raise desperately needed funds towards research into the horrible disease that is brain cancer.
