Gold Coast Commonwealth Games organisers have admitted an embarrassing error, with thousands of opening ceremony tickets being printed with an incorrect date.

About 14,000 tickets have been sent out in the past few days with Thursday, April 4 on them but April 4 is actually a Wednesday.

Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation (GOLDOC) chief executive Mark Peters said the mistake could be attributed to a "human error" in checking.

"Obviously Ticketek and ourselves are disappointed this happened," Mr Peters told reporters on Tuesday.

All tickets issued with the incorrect date remain valid, Mr Peters said.

He was also confident the error wouldn't create confusion about the day of the week that the opening ceremony will be held on.

"I'm sure when you see all our publicity you'll know exactly when the opening ceremony's on," he said.

Despite the reassurances, Mr Peters admitted both GOLDOC and Ticketek were "gutted" by the mistake.

He said the remaining unissued opening ceremony tickets were being checked for the error and with over 90 per cent of the 1.2 million Games tickets now issued, no other problems had been reported.

He also dismissed the suggestion the error called into question GOLDOC's organisation less than two months before the Games start.

"Everyone should be really confident this is going to be a fantastic event," he said.
