Is @ art?

The At Symbol

@ is not just for emails anymore.

It's pronounced "at" or if you're somebody's aunt "little A in a circle"

What is art? Or rather what is @rt?

The National Gallery of Victoria are currently displaying 230 artworks from New York’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) collection and amongst the pieces is the @ symbol.

The symbol is in every email address, on every keyboard and in every angry Trump reply he tweets and it is now on display at the NGV.

The symbol was designed in 1971 by Ray Tomlinson and it is in the gallery alongside works by Andy Warhol, Jackson Pollock, Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso and Vincent van Gogh, none of whom have a account.

MoMA director Glenn Lowry told the ABC that “the MoMA from its inception believed that modern art wasn’t just limited to painting and sculpture, but it included industrial design, popular film, photography. Now of course we would add new media and digital technology, video games.”

The MoMA exhibition is being held at NGV until October. Just remember: Art is in the eye of the beholder. Don’t @ me.
