The clichés are true, never underestimate the love Germans have for all things chocolate.

A group of sweet-toothed thieves in Neustadt, Germany have stolen a trailer carrying 20,000 kilos of Nutella and Kinder Surprise eggs.

The trailer, loaded with the $75,000 haul of treats, was being transported by a truck cross country, but the thieves had no interest in the vehicle, setting their sights on the goods instead.

Local police say they’re unsure whether the thieves stumbled upon the chocolate tow and decided to take it, or if it was a planned heist.

A similar incident occurred last week when police in Schleswig-Holstein, a state in the country’s north, reported finding 53 kilos of chocolate in the city, suspected to be stolen or disposed of illegally.

A fruit juice truck was also stolen earlier on the day that the sweets went missing, some 445 kms from Neustadt, and an empty semitrailer was stolen about 25kms from the town sometime after the incident.
