Former Australian of the Year Rosie Batty has helped welcome the Commonwealth Games Queen's baton as it continued its journey, passing through Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula this morning.

At 10am Ms Batty carried the baton in Sorrento in front of hundreds of onlookers, who attended the event for morning tea followed by an official ceremony.

The ceremony coincides with the fourth anniversary of her son Luke's death.

During the celebration, Mrs Batty took time to thank the public for coming out to support her.

“Thank you for supporting me today which is the fourth anniversary of Luke’s death,” she said.

“It is very special to be given this honour and to share this once in a lifetime event with you all.

“Thank you for coming.”

The baton will continue its journey to Queenscliff and make its way to Torquay and Geelong by the end of today.
