Woman survives after reversing car off Sydney embankment

An elderly woman has escaped a crash with only minor injuries, after accidentally reversing off a five-metre embankment in Sydney’s south-west.

The woman, 86, was parking her silver Hyundai hatchback above the Malabar Ocean Pool when she put the car into reverse instead of drive, and plunged backward.

The car fell about five metres over the embankment, landing on its rear on a walkway.

The woman managed to free herself after being trapped for a short time.

NSW emergency services and a helicopter responded to the scene and despite the fall, said the woman was unharmed with only minor hip pain.

The woman is reportedly recovering at home with family, after being taken to hospital as a precaution.
