Jessica Falkholt remains critical after life support switched off

Former Home and Away actress Jessica Falkholt remains in a critical condition in Sydney’s St George hospital this morning, after her life support was switched off last night – a day after her mother, father, and sister were laid to rest.

"On behalf of the family of Jessica Falkholt, St George Hospital has been asked to advise the media and the community that Jessica's life support has been switched off.  She remains in a critical condition," a hospital spokesperson said.

"The family has asked for privacy during this very difficult time."

The Falkholt's car was struck head-on in a horror Boxing Day smash on the NSW South Coast, south of Sussex Inlet, killing Lars Falkholt, 69, his wife Vivian, 60, and the driver of the other car – 50-year-old Craig Whitall – instantly.

Sisters Jessica, 28, and Annabelle, 21, were left in a critical condition.  Annabelle died in hospital three days later.

Home and Away posted a message on social media yesterday, saying “Rest in peace, beautiful Jessica Falkholt.”  The post has since been removed.

On the morning of the crash, witnesses saw the 4WD driven by Whitall veer over the centre line several times before the head-on crash, which caused both vehicles to burst into flames.

Whitall reportedly had an extensive history of driving convictions, had lost his license for extended periods of time on numerous occasions, and had been heading home from a methadone clinic at the time of the crash.

Jessica and Annabelle were pulled from the wreckage by motorists who stopped to help.

On Wednesday, family and friends farewelled Lars, Vivian and Annabelle at a service St Mary’s Catholic Church in Concord, in Sydney’s inner west.

Vivien’s brother Paul delivered a eulogy, and remembered Lars as a loving father who doted on his daughters.  Ironically, he said Lars was a careful driver, and always allowed for extra time on the road.

Paul said he always imagined he and his sister Vivian would grow old together.

Annabelle was remembered as a young woman full of life, who loved travelling, art, and Harry Potter.  Her boyfriend Jordan shouldered her coffin, and stood heartbroken, watching as it was loaded into a waiting hearse.

Flowers were sent from Sweden, where Lars was born, and from Italy, where Vivian was born.

Jessica Falkholt played the role of Hope Morrison in the TV series Home and Away, and also stars in the title role of the film Harmony, to be released this year.
