Police are investigating after the body of a man was found at a railway station in Sydney’s south.

Members of the public alerted police after the man’s body was discovered near the Forrest Road entrance to Hurstville Railway Station with “severe lacerations” to his body, at approximately 6am this morning.

Emergency services were contacted and a crime scene has been set up around the train station.

Officers arrested a man nearby shortly afterwards and seized a “edged weapon”, police said.

Inspector David Ralph from St George Local Area Command said at a press conference this morning police are still investigating and are “not sure on the motive” behind the incident.

“A male was located deceased at Hurstville just after 6am,” Inspector Ralph said.

“Emergency services arrived, but they could not revive the male.

“He received severe lacerations to the body.

“Whilst police were at the scene, further information was received that another male, possibly involved, was at a home close by.”

The man has been taken to Kogarah Police Station and is assisting police with enquiries. No charges have been laid.

A crime scene has also been established at the home where the man possibly involved was picked up from.

Police are urging anyone with information to contact Kogarah Police Station or crime stoppers.
