Paris Orly airport attack footage released

The Associated Press has obtained security footage which shows the moment a suspected Islamic extremist took a soldier hostage in the middle of Paris Orly airport.

The footage shows how the man grabbed the female soldier around her shoulders while her companion patrols ahead.

39-year-old Ziyed Ben Belgacem can be seen dropping his shopping bag which authorities say contained a flask of gasoline.

He proceeded to brandish a revolver loaded with birdshot, and held it against the soldier as he pulled her backwards.

There was a brief moment of almost silence, as nobody reacted to the situation unfolding.

People started to realise what was happening, and proceeded to move away as the attacker pulled his hostage along.

According to the Paris prosecutor, he was yelling that he wanted to kill and die for Allah.

The attacker can be seen trying to steal away the soldiers attack rifle, and he uses the soldier as a shield after he reportedly got control of her firearm.

However, Belgacem exposed himself when he stood up, which gave the other soldiers a clear shot… one they took and did not miss.

In a total span of three minutes the ordeal was order, and the hostage solider crawled away, safe and unharmed.

Authorities said Belgacem had a long criminal record of drug and robbery offences, and earlier in the day had shot a police officer in the face with birdshot when he was stopped for a traffic violation.

The Paris persecutors’ office released the results of the autopsy toxicology, which found traces of cocaine and cannabis in the attackers’ blood, with a blood alcohol reading of 0.93 grams of alcohol per litre of blood.
