Infamous drink driver escapes jail

One of the nation’s worst drink drivers has escaped jail and has instead been slapped with a good behaviour bond.

Mother-of-three Trudy Friend was caught driving more than nine times the legal limit following a crash in Coffs Harbour in January.

The 52-year-old reportedly blew .486, a figure which experts claim is enough to kill majority of average sized females, after crashing on Sawtell Road in Boambee East.

The incident was witnessed by neighbours.

How Ms Friend was able to drive despite her outrageous reading has experts astounded.

Detective Inspector Darren Jameson said the reading is believed to be the highest prescribed concentration of alcohol (PCA) ever recorded in NSW.

“Drink-driving is a very serious offence and not only risks the safety of the driver, but also all other road users," he said.

“This is the highest PCA we’ve ever recorded."

Her license has also been suspended for nine months from the date of the incident.
