Besieged Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein is being investigated by British and US police as fresh sexual harassment allegations against him continue to surface.
The New York City Police Department said it was investigating an allegation of sexual assault by Weinstein in 2004, and was digging for further complaints against the producer.
It comes British police said they received an allegation of sexual assault against Weinstein on Wednesday, according to The Guardian.
“The Metropolitan Police Service was passed an allegation of sexual assault by Merseyside Police on Wednesday, 11 October. The allegation will be assessed by officers from the Child Abuse and Sexual Offences Command,” a MET spokesman said.
The investigations come as actress Kate Beckinsale claimed she was propositioned by Weinstein many times, the first being when she was 17 years old.
Describing the incident on Instagram, the actress said she was invited to meet with Weinstein at a hotel.
She expected to meet him in a conference room, but instead was directed to the producer’s suite instead.
“He opened the door in his bathrobe… I was incredible naïve and young and it did not cross my mind that this older, unattractive man would expect me to have any sexual interest in him,” she wrote.
“After declining alcohol and announcing I had school in the morning I left, uneasy but unscathed.”
“A few years later he asked me if he had tried anything with me in that first meeting. I realised he couldn’t remember if he had assaulted me or not,” she wrote.
She joins at least 32 other actresses, models, and prominent figures who have come forward so far with allegations against Weinstein.
