It’s big, it’s unpredictable, and it’s about to put the fun back in your Sunday nights. Here’s what on the menu for Chris & Julia’s Sunday Night Takeaway, the party that’ll banish your back-to-work blues. The name sounds familiar?
That’s coz the format’s based on the smash hit UK variety show Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway. Which means games, celebrity guests, music, laughs and a whole lot more. Fresh from the jungle, Dr Chris Brown and Julia Morris will be your hosts for an evening jam-packed with live entertainment.Wait, why isn’t it ‘Julia & Chris’ Sunday Night Takeaway’?
Wondering why the doctor’s name comes before the comedian’s? So is Julia. Possible reasons include height, the alphabet, and Dr Chris’ agent.
Did we mention the guests?
Home-grown legends and overseas stars will be helping Chris and Julia keep the party in full swing. Assuming Guest Announcer duties for the premiere is cricket icon Shane Warne, who’ll be the stepping up to the crease to MC the biggest bash in town. NRL legend Beau Ryan will also be in the house - and about town - every week, going from player to referee as he overseas two of Sunday Night Takeaway’s unmissable games.
Let the games begin
Sunday Night Takeaway will boast wild and wacky games galore, featuring the live audience, viewers at home, and unsuspecting punters on the street. Games include ‘Win The Ads’, giving an audience member the chance to win what they see in - you guessed it - the ads, as well as ‘In For A Dollar’. Hosted by Beau Ryan, ‘Dollar’ sees everyday peeps pony up a gold coin to try and win $1000 over five frantic rounds of questions and tasks.
Beau will also be ensuring that the weekly segment ‘Chris Vs Julia’, a titanic battle of physical and mental strength between Takeaway’s powerhouse hosts, doesn’t get out of hand. We make no promises.
Everybody loves a good prank
Chris and Julia are no exception. They’ll be dialing up their mischievousness by having some fun with some very familiar faces. First up is Gold Logie winner Grant Denyer, who’s agreed to wear an earpiece and follow their every demand. What could possibly go wrong?
And there’s no party without music, right?
Don’t worry! Every episode will feature musical performances to make you crank the volume up to 11. A classic Aussie rock act sets the stage for what’s to come, so flex those vocal chords and let your neighbours hear ya.
