Dancing With The Stars 2019 Judges Revealed

There’s a lot more to TV’s Dancing With The Stars judge than you may have realised…

He’s An Aussie

Craig might flaunt a very British accent (thanks to living in the UK for the past 30 years), but the DWTS judge was actually born in Ballarat, Australia. Yep, he’s an Aussie country boy at heart! Craig has since become a British citizen, but that won’t stop us from claiming him as one of our own.

He Can Practice What He Preaches

Craig started dancing when he was 14-years-old, learning from masters such as top Australian choreographer Tony Bartuccio.

After moving to the UK in 1989, he choreographed some pretty impressive West End shows, like Spend Spend Spend and My One and Only, which both earned him Laurence Olivier Award nominations.

Then there was West Side Story, Hard Times – The Musical, Calamity Jane, Tommy Cooper – Jus’ Like That, Beautiful and Damned which he choreographed and directed, and a performance of Miss Hannigan in the UK production of Annie in 2015 and again in 2017 (check out Craig in full costume below).

Had enough? No way! Craig also directed the opening ceremony of the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester and the final scene in the 2017 film, Paddington 2

Yep, he’s a pretty established dance extraordinaire. No argument there!

This Isn’t Craig's First Judging Rodeo

While in the UK, Craig was asked to join the judging panel for the first season of Strictly Come Dancing. ICYMI, Strictly Come Dancing is one of the UK’s biggest dance shows (it has the same format as Dancing With The Stars) and made the Guinness World Record for most successful reality TV format.

In both Dancing With The Stars Australia and Strictly, Craig has been labelled the harshest judge. And in classic Craig style, he couldn’t care less what people think of his dancing critiques (please see CV above).

He’s also notorious for making sure traditional dancing rules are applied to the spectacular dance routines performed in the show. So this isn’t the first time he’s made a point about ‘illegal lifts’ (dance partners being lifted in certain ballroom and Latin dance styles that don’t allow lifting), and a flashy number without technicality isn’t going to impress him.

With over forty years dancing experience under his belt, Craig’s got a wealth of knowledge to share and we’re so here for it.
