Blind boy with cerebral palsy starved to death

Four people have been arrested in relation to the starvation and ultimate death of a nine-year-old boy with cerebral palsy.

Officers in the US state of Indiana say the boy was starved until he weighed a mere 7kgs – about the weight of a three-month-old infant.

It is understood emergency services were called to a property in Fontanet, following reports a child had gone into cardiac arrest.

Cameron Hoopingarner, who was severely malnourished and also blind, was rushed to hospital where he later died.

Sheriff Greg Ewing described the neglect case as “beyond terrible”.

Four people who lived at the property have since been arrested including Cameron’s two guardians, Robin Lee Kraemer, 53, and Hubert Kraemer, 56, who have been charged with neglect of a dependent resulting in death.

Sarah Beth Travioli, 30, and Chad Kraemer, 33, were also arrested on charges of neglect of a dependant resulting in death, and neglect of a dependent and failure to report child neglect.

All four of the accused are being held at Vigo County Jail under a $250,000 bond.

They are expected to face court Thursday, local time.

Local media reports that none of the suspects are biologically related to Cameron and all four are unemployed.
